This Russian Orthodox cross in Silver or Saint Andrew's cross with three bars appears very frequently in Slavic religious symbolism. Tradition teaches that when the apostle Andrew preached in southern Russia, he placed a life-sized three-bar cross beside him. While explaining the Last Judgment, he tilted the footrest to signify that those on Christ's right side will ascend to heaven and those on the left will go to hell.
