Our Lady of Vladimir is a medieval Byzantine icon of the Virgin and Child. The icon is popular in Slavic lands and is considered a sacred guardian of the land. The original artwork icon is dated to the early 12th century and, like most Orthodox icons of the time, it was painted in Constantinople by an unknown artist. It is said by those who have seen it to be "one of the most exceptional religious paintings in the world."
